THE FOREST IS A VALUABLE ASSET
Our Swedish forests renew themselves. This is a truth that requires some explanation. Our Swedish forests are most assuredly renewable – but only if they are managed in the right way and given the care they need. Sweden’s forest owners therefore have a great responsibility that they shoulder fantastically well. And thus preserve a valuable asset that we all share for the next generation.
In order to meet future needs as regards timber, primarily for the sawmill industry, long-term planning is needed. The industry is very competent in forestry, upkeep and reforestation. But protecting our forests against threats like climate change, acidification or insect attacks requires that we all take collective responsibility for how we live and work on our planet. We all need to change our attitude towards the valuable common asset that our forests are.
More than 50,000 people refine over 5 million cubic metres of forest in Sweden today. This gives Sweden an annual total trade surplus of approximately SEK 70bn. The forest is also our tradition, our history, and our provenance. It is the most valuable asset that we have!
